Forensic Interviews – Specially trained staff members at Butterfly Bridge CAC conduct legally justifiable fact-finding interviews with children at the request of law enforcement or the Department of Human Resources during child abuse investigations. The interviews are designed to allow a child to disclose abuse if abuse has occurred.

Expert Testimony - Staff members are called upon to provide expert court testimony in the area of child maltreatment.

Therapy– Butterfly Bridge CAC utilizes evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions to allow child victims and their non-offending family members the chance to heal from abuse. We believe when offered community support, the family's chances for restoration increase greatly. Services to promote restoration include: therapeutic services for children who have experienced trauma as a result of abuse, psycho-educational support groups for their non-offending family members, and referrals to other needed community resources.

Medical Services- After a disclosure or concern of abuse, it is often helpful for a child to see a health professional. Butterfly Bridge CAC offers on-site, forensically-sound medical services by a specially-trained pediatric sexual assault nurse examiner (Pedi-SANE). This is at no cost to the family. Medical services are provided in a child-friendly exam room using state-of-the-art equipment. The medical exam is not painful or invasive.

Family Advocacy and Support Services – This program of Butterfly Bridge CAC is designed to provide a continuum of care for children and families throughout the criminal justice process. We provide security to children victimized by abuse or neglect by working closely with the local multi-disciplinary team of professionals who investigate cases of alleged abuse. Together, we assess needs and risks the child may face. We also provide support through the process by coordinating and tracking the efforts of the different professionals working each child's case, from intake through trial proceedings, to make sure no clients' needs go unmet.

Multi-disciplinary Team Coordination - Butterfly Bridge CAC coordinates intervention among child welfare professionals in Chilton, Autauga, and Elmore counties to ensure protection of victims and their non-offending family members. Prior to the inception of the Children’s Advocacy Center model, efforts to investigate and prosecute were often duplicated and inefficient. In a criminal justice system designed around adults, child victims were revictimized by the system, having to retell their abuse stories to multiple investigators. Criminal cases were often weakened by the lack of coordination between agencies. Working collaboratively with law enforcement and DHR, services and resources are efficiently leveraged to provide healing to abused children. Communication across agencies strengthens criminal cases so that perpetrators can be held accountable, keeping our community safe.

Training and Education – Butterfly Bridge CAC staff provide free training and education on child abuse related topics to the community and to child abuse professionals.
